How to Stick and Poke
Although the details of how to create a stick and poke tattoo are often up to your discretion, many aspects of the hand-poking technique are universal. This guide will provide step-by-step instructions for beginners to help them create their first stick and poke tattoo.
Get the right supplies and prepare your body correctly.
Gathering the right tattoo supplies is the first and most important step. Needles and ink for tattoos are essential. You will also need medical supplies to prevent minor injuries from tattooing. To avoid long-term or short-term injuries, make sure you have the right after-care supplies.
Note: You should only purchase high-quality equipment. The FDA does not regulate tattoo materials, including inks. Many unsanitary and cheap products can be made. It is important to understand which ink brands are best.
Drinking large quantities of fluids is a good idea to prepare your body for tattoos. It would help if you also avoided alcohol and drug abuse. This is because it can dehydrate your body, harming your tattoo. When you are getting ready to tattoo, be well-hydrated.
Remember that your skin will be an organ you keep poking with a needle! Your body’s lymph nodes will work harder to combat the ink you inject into them. Remember that every tattoo will react differently depending on your overall health and location. It would be best if you were mentally and physically prepared.
Spend a lot of time thinking about your design. It would be best if you sketched the tattoo several times before you decide on what it is. Take some time to look at tattoos done by others. It is important to rest on it. This is an important part of your body. After deciding what you want, take individual notes on the original design to remember what details you need, e.g. thicker line, colour, shading.
To determine if you have any allergies, test a small area of your skin with some ink.
Establishing the Tattoo Area
- Make sure you have a clean workspace and that it is completely cleaned. Wash your hands with warm soapy water and wash the area where the tattoo will be done.
- If necessary, use a disposable razor to shave the area.
- All of your tattoo supplies should be laid out. Unscrew the lid from the ink cartridges and open the needle packs.
- Use medical gloves
- Use an alcohol pad to clean the area you want to tattoo. Rub the pad in circular motions.
- Use the appropriate stencil transfer gel to apply the stencil to the skin.
- Allow the stencil to dry between 5-10 minutes. You can quickly clean the stencil if it has been incorrectly applied and then apply the same stencil again. The same stencil can be reused multiple times.
- Ink can be mixed in sterile containers, such as a small glass jar or cap. Mixing ink colours can be done, such as diluting inks to create a lighter effect.
